Welcome to Paul Hunt Counselling

Real talk. Real presence. No pretending

Hi, I’m Paul. I’m really glad you’ve found your way here.

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and a deeply personal one. You might not know where to begin or how to put into words what you're feeling. You might just know that something isn’t right or that you’re tired of carrying it all on your own. Whatever’s brought you here, I want you to know that it matters and that you’re not alone.

I’m a qualified integrative counsellor and a registered member of the BACP. I provide online counselling for adults across the UK, In Person and Walk & Talk (Out door therapy) creating a confidential space where you can feel safe, supported, and free to speak openly from wherever you feel most comfortable.

I work with people experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, burnout, relationship struggles, childhood trauma, parental alienation, and the challenges of living with ADHD and neurodiversity. But more than any label or diagnosis, I work with you as a person. A real person, trying to cope with things that are often unseen or misunderstood.

My style is warm, down to earth, and deeply human. I’m not here to fix you or judge you. I’m here to walk alongside you as you begin to understand your own story in a new light. In a world where we’re often told to keep going, hold it together, or pretend we’re fine, I believe in creating a space where you can stop, exhale, and just be real.

One of the things clients often say is how easy it is to talk to me. Even online, they feel safe, relaxed, and able to be themselves, sometimes for the first time in a long time. I think that ease comes from how I show up. I’m fully present, I listen closely, and I genuinely care. It’s something I don’t take for granted. It’s a quiet strength I bring to every session.

I’ve always been fascinated by the parts of ourselves we learn to hide — the fears, the pain, the thoughts we don’t dare say out loud. So often we bury difficult feelings to keep the peace, to protect others, or because we were never taught how to name them. But those buried emotions don’t disappear. They sit underneath the surface, and over time, they can weigh us down in ways we may not even realise.

Through therapy, I offer a space where those unspoken parts of you can be heard gently and safely. We can begin to untangle what’s been held inside, and in doing so, you may start to feel clearer, lighter, and more grounded in who you are. Therapy isn’t about becoming someone else. It’s about coming home to yourself.

You don’t need to have the right words. You don’t need to be in crisis. And you don’t have to go through it alone. If you’re ready, or even just curious, I’m here and I’d be honoured to walk with you.

How Can I Help?

I support adults with a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges, the kind of struggles that are often hidden beneath the surface, but deeply felt. You might recognise yourself in some of the experiences below, or simply feel a quiet knowing that something needs to change.

Anxiety and overthinking

That constant inner noise, a mind that won’t switch off, or a sense of dread that seems to come out of nowhere. Whether it’s general anxiety, social anxiety, or panic, we’ll explore what’s beneath the worry and help you feel more grounded and in control.

Depression and emotional numbness

Feeling flat, disconnected, or like you're just going through the motions. If life feels heavy, or if motivation has vanished and joy feels out of reach, we can work together to reconnect you with yourself and what matters most.

Grief, loss, and complex bereavement

Whether you’re grieving a loved one, the end of a relationship, or a life you expected to have. Grief isn’t always straightforward. You might feel guilt, anger, or confusion, and that’s okay. Together, we’ll give those feelings the space they need to be processed.

Unresolved trauma and past experiences

Painful memories, childhood wounds, or experiences that still affect you today. Even if you’ve “got on with it” for years, part of you may still be carrying the impact. Therapy offers a safe place to slowly release what’s been buried.

Burnout and chronic stress

When you’ve been pushing through for too long, constantly doing, giving, holding it all together, until you can’t. We’ll look at what’s driving that cycle and how you can start to create more balance, rest, and clarity in your life.

Low self-worth and inner criticism

That harsh inner voice telling you you’re not good enough, or the fear that you’re somehow falling short. Together, we can begin to quiet that voice and rebuild a sense of self that’s kinder, more confident, and truly yours.

Relationship struggles and emotional disconnection

Whether with a partner, family member, or yourself. You might feel stuck in patterns of conflict, people-pleasing, emotional shutdown, or never quite feeling seen. Counselling can help you shift those dynamics and strengthen your boundaries and sense of identity.

Parental alienation and estrangement

A painful and often silent grief. I support parents, grandparents, and step-parents who are navigating the deep emotional loss that comes with being cut off or pushed away from a child they love.

Living with ADHD and neurodivergence

Struggling with focus, emotional regulation, identity, or burnout from masking. Whether diagnosed or self-identifying, I offer a space where you don’t have to explain or apologise for how your brain works. We’ll focus on understanding yourself, not fixing you.

Life transitions and uncertainty

Major changes like divorce, career shifts, becoming a parent, or moving into a new life chapter can stir up emotions you didn’t expect. We’ll explore what’s unfolding and help you move through it with clarity and strength.

Financial stress and fear of the future

When it feels like everything is uncertain and there’s pressure to hold it all together. Whether you're questioning your next steps or feeling stuck in survival mode, we’ll work on creating stability and self-trust from the inside out.

Identity and self-exploration

When you no longer feel connected to who you are, or you're asking bigger questions about your place in the world. This is a space to explore the real you, without judgement or pressure to have it all figured out.

Not sure where to start? That’s okay.

Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or just know something needs to shift, you're not alone. Let's talk it through, no pressure.

In-Person Sessions – £55 (50 minutes)

Location: Harmony 14 Vincent Street, Saint Helens, WA10 1DZ

If you'd rather sit down and talk face to face, I offer in-person sessions in a calm, private setting. You might find that being in the same room helps you feel more grounded, more connected, or simply more at ease it’s all about what feels right for you. These sessions are also 50 minutes long and give you the space to pause and focus on yourself without the distractions of daily life. Just a quiet, supportive space where you're free to talk, reflect, and work through things in your own time. Whatever you're bringing, you’ll be met with warmth, honesty, and no judgement.

Walk and Talk Sessions additional in person – £45 (50 minutes) (Leyland Preston)

If you find it easier to talk while moving or feel more at ease outdoors, I offer Walk and Talk sessions. These sessions last 50 minutes and take place in a quiet park in Leyland, Preston, where we can walk side by side at your pace. You don’t have to sit across from someone in a room to get the support you need. Being outside surrounded by nature, fresh air, and open space can help you feel more relaxed and able to open up. Whether you want to walk the whole time, stop for a breather, or just take things as they come, this is your time, your space, your session.

There’s no pressure or expectation. You’re welcome to book week by week, or we can find a regular rhythm that works for you.

What to expect: Our sessions are led by you. Whether you come with something specific or just a tangled mix of thoughts and emotions, we’ll create space to unpack it at your pace. You don’t need to explain everything perfectly or have it all figured out, you just need somewhere to start.

Clients often tell me they feel a sense of relief after simply being able to say things out loud. When someone listens with empathy and without judgment, something inside begins to settle. You might find yourself feeling lighter, clearer, or just a bit more like yourself again, and that’s where real change begins.

If you're feeling unsure, that's okay. The first step doesn’t need to be big, it just needs to be yours.

You don’t have to keep carrying this on your own.

If you're ready for real change, or even just curious about what therapy could offer, let’s start with a simple conversation.
